Blizzard, Get rid of Engineering

Professions are not made in a vacuum. It requires art assets, programming for spells, development & cross-checking with itemization teams & lots of other people… oh, and probably lots of coffee from the interns. Engineering is an incredibly art- and spell-intensive profession. Players can swear up and down they don’t mind placeholders and rehashes if just for some new stuff, but the devs mind being asked to churn out stuff below their standards. For every player who won’t complain, there will be at least another who will say “Blizz churns out cheap crap full of rehashed art and placeholders”.

It’s crunch time for WotLK release. If engineering is a little lean, it’s not deliberate malice. Making stuff takes time Blizz doesn’t have at this very moment.

Patience will be rewarded.

Really….

Funny, we’ve been patient since Burning Crusade got launched, and where has it gotten us?

How long does it take to do a color shift on a mechanical dragonling, set the new material requirements and stats and rename it “Fel Iron Dragonling”? Honestly, if it takes longer then 30 minutes, they are doing something wrong.

They should not have to reinvent the wheel every time they want to create a new item, and I strongly suspect they don’t. If they don’t have tools to swiftly (relatively speaking) create new items, it would come as a shock.

How hard is it to come up with small icons and stats and effects for a dozen or so trinkets for Engineering? Well, they seemed to easily do it for Jewelcrafting. And they had time to do the same for the metric crapload of new gem cuts for Jewelcrafting. And the new necklaces and rings and whatnot for Jewelcrafting.

And yet, in all that time, they managed to come up with two trinkets for Engineering?

Burning Crusade was “lean” for Engineering. Wrath of the Lich King is shaping up to be more of the same. Do you honestly expect us not to be upset about it?
